Same (Vanguard) EX / M- U.S.'1972 75.00
(superb early 70's release by canadian (?) Singer-Songwriter whose songs have been covered by many a guitar-stringin' artist down the line!... unlike that other (BIG) Bob this is most authentic, rootsy canamericana (?) delvin' w/a good dose of Van Ronk-ish woodsmoke on the throat & mellow, vibrating colors (yes! he can sing 'n let 'em inspiration-birdies ring!) on patches summin' up for a genuine songpenner's coat; he's there deliverin' 'em lines outta straight mind, no semi-poetic trick-back joggle galore, ...able to tell wood from l'or...; take "Judas Iscariot" for example, it sure is derived from bigBOB's "the ballad of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest" but instead of smugglin' sense 'round cliffs of shady ever-commence Frank cuts to the point by pluckin' feathers w/humour to clear any oily spots sticky w/ "poetic" rumour!! (bigBOB's supply of humour is about as vast & pale as his ability to expose musical lines to an eastern scale!!) Frank keeps the Blues in its native soil, cranks a Country lick in basic nick, avoiding artistic turmoil... songs like "cold canadian pines", "way down in Mississippi" and the fabulous "the deer hunter" rub shoulders w/ insignificant guardians of mortal coil! ...just in case you feel like crackin' up the myth of a songwriter's effigy, just take a step outta rank 'n put on some Bob Frank!)
