The Spike Drivers Folkrocking Psychedelic Innovation From The Motor City In The Mid-60's (RD) M / M CH'2001 SOLD
(limited issue of legendary recordings by this Detroit based band feat. Ted Lucas (one album released on OM Records in the early 70's!) Sid Brown (of later Peace Bread & Land fame!!) and Richard Keelan ... escaping to Canada to dodge the draft and help forming one of the more authentic (in the sense of sticking to aquarian runes in U.S. post-war sub-cult soil long after many of its heroes ceased to water plants and let their poodles graze peacefully in the gardens outside the walls of the Pent-a-Gone) bands of the times: Perth County Conspiracy Does Not Exist!
well, the music here is a truly fascinating testimony from the vaults of yore finally washed ashore ... imagine Dick Farina having the east-west Paul Butterfield for backing band and holding a dead candle in one and an incense-stick in the other hand ...; incl. a different version of "strange mysterious sounds" (their single release) and the haunting "Portland town" is based on "morning dew" as for vybe 'n rhyme! Sid Brown wrote some liner-notes on the back of the thick card-board cover which also has an 8-page booklet!!!)

(orig. U.S. print of mid-70's album by 60's L.A. band that started out with condensing Rock, Jazz, Folk and Blues via adventurous, eclectic procedures onto a most convincing & original platform of its own!!here on this reunion album (w/all the original members back in the cockpit) it's elevated West-Coast-Fusion- Lounge w/a captivating Pop-edge (title track, "world eat world dog") ... lofty strings, dazzlin' vibes, subtle brass cuts, funky twilyte-sneaker allures 'n 'xotik marimba/ coconut fibres by Ian Underwood on "pineapple", athmo-packed West-Coast-Rock w/ a spacey clang("colossus") an orchestral version of "nature's way" from the "twelve dreams of Sardonicus" album & "Phoebe" stands for top-level Progressive-Fusion galore w/that trancey flow in the rhythm-groove that served for amazing trade-mark of the band's first 4 albums!! "atomic boogie" is dynamo-spawned tongue-in-sheek (?) Disco-Rock; ... but what  actually makes this such a quality album sure has to do w/ the superb production-job done by Al Schmitt and those classy arrangements by David Blumberg & Nick DeCaro ... makes me wanna count this among the best produced albums ever heard!!! w/insert-sheet;)
