Mad Dog | Dawn Of The Seventh Sun (RD) M / M | CH'2004 | SOLD |
(limited reprint of late 60's recordings by L. A. based band that released an album in '67 under the name of The Zoo ("presents chocolate moose") ... Mad Dog was produced by Morgan Cavett (who by the way wrote "a girl I knew" for the first album by Steppenwolf!) ... a wide range of musical directions colors Mad Dog's material ... gritty roadhouse-Rock w/ loud wah-fuzz lead-axe ("military disgust", "fast song") , rustic West-Coast-Rock grooves w/ jammin' moods, ... title-track sure serves for the stand-out piece here as it condenses the band's versatility onto a 7-minute platform ... starting out with loose jammer-Rock manner ... it changes gear to take the swing-door for a bouncin' Jazz-Rock riff and plunges into a Homer-typo (the band on U.R.A. records!) fanfaring motion and the trip expires in a wall of crashin' guitars! this band is no-way-connected with another group of the same name releasing their album on "fish head records"! lead-guitarist Howard M. Leese later on down the line became a member of the chartbusting group HEART! this release comes with an insert-sheet on which Morgan Cavett sketches the map with most informative liner-notes! also pictured are the labels for the initial release of this album under the band-name "Joyful Noise" but name was changed into MAD DOG as this seemed to be more appropriate to the sounds contained ... and you sure will agree!) |
