The Exceptions Simply Us (No Label) EX / EX U.S.'197 95.00

U.S. print of late 70' (?) local midwest (?) release of pretty odd slice of vinyl by this trio: Steve Greene, Craig Senne and Randy Wills (in alphabetical order) who composed, arranged, performed, recorded and produced these 11 songs! ... the bag kicks off with a funky, roadhouse fevered piece heating up the electric boxcar w/a tasty electric-lead-axe, to be followed by "when she smiles" a song graced with a cloudburst of heavenly SCHLOCK ... hung heavily w/O.B. violins over a voice trying to chew sweet gator meat and a pearly, forlorn grand piano ... "loosin'" shakes up a Memphis/ Riverboat-struttin' rhythm and the guitar in the intro seems to be borrowed from some fortunate son (---) ... and the melodic, drowsed moods drag on "many times", "sing my life" ...to be interrupted by the shaky "all she knows" (w/funky Wurlitzer-piano sounds and swift bridging from barroom-Rock into Jazz 'n back!) and a postcard from Bozo-Creek by the name of "cowgirl" (complete w/cattle-noizes) ... plus that haunting ballad at the end entitled "banjo man" that may cause you to play this album again from the beginning! ... well, this album could easily pass your attention by ... but after being struck by the photo (on the front of the nice fold-open card-board jacket) showin' the three guys dressed as railroad-gigolo- bums w/cigars and mean looks and after having found out that they sure can PLAY and SING (ace harmonies in spots!) and there are lines buried here treasuring some fine gold awaiting some ear-shovel and the ossicle of the bold! ... inside of FOC is autographed by all three!)
